How to Take the Best PhotosUpdated 2 years ago

We've put together our top 3 tips that will make getting those photos a breeze!

1. Snap 3 Photos

We've found that taking three photos back to back is the best way to capture a good profile. Before taking each photo, count 1, 2 ...and snap the photo as you say 3! Do this three times in a row. You can upload all three photos with your order. Our designers will pick the best photo to work from.

2. Take a Video

You heard that right! Start taking a video of your little one while she is watching her favorite show. Keep in mind you need to do so from the side. Once done, review the video and take screen shots of the best side profiles. Upload up to three photos with your order.

3. Book a Virtual Session

If you're still struggling we are here to help! We know taking photos of a squirmy little one can be challenging. We would love to make this part of the process easy and enjoyable for you! Book a 15 minute virtual photo session appointment via Zoom today!

Additional Tips

Having the photo taken in front of a solid color + well lit background works best. We understand this can be tough and we're able to work with a wide array of backgrounds.

Make sure the individual's entire head is captured in the photo - we don't want to miss any of the details! If your subject has hair past their shoulders consider putting it up into a pony tail or messy bun - these make for super cute silhouettes!

Trying to capture the sweet profile of a baby? We find that sneaking the photo while they're asleep and relaxed is easiest (for everyone involved!)

Stand 2-4 feet away from the subject and take the photo eye level with the person being photographed. Taking a photo angled too far from above can skew the angles of the face and exaggerate certain features look larger or smaller than what they are.

Looking to do a full body silhouette? Having the subject walking toward or away from the camera typically works best for this kind of shot. Jumping is fun too...as long as everyone is inside the frame 😉

Still not sure? If you can't decide which pictures to upload or need some help selecting the best ones, please feel free to include 1-2 extra pictures. We would be happy to look through them and pick the one we feel best describes the subject. You can also send them before placing your order to [email protected] and we'd be happy to take a look and help you get the best photo!
